THE DONKEYS

One of my favorite new CDs to come through WTJU recently is "Living on the Other Side" by The Donkeys. This San Diego band has a feel-good sound that gets my attention every time. Walk Through A Cloud is the perfect peppy-sad song: the no matter how upbeat the music, the lyrics are downright heartbreaking. The band seems to be channeling the Velvet Underground, especially in tunes like Excelsior Lady, a sexy groove that features a keyboard - bass line riff sure to win you over.

It looks like they'll be touring outside of California soon, even making a stop in my hometown of Charlotte, NC. Check out their Myspace page for more info on their schedule.

Air France (the real airline, not the Swedish band) has come out with an album. Weird? Yes. But at least they got good people to do it, and most of them cater to D's tastes in breathy folk and dreamy electro: Hope Sandoval, Telepopmusik, Nouvelle Vaugue, and (one of my favorites) Boards of Canada.
